09:00 Depart from Sakata Port
10:00 Reach Mt Haguro. Climb over 2,446 stone steps from the base to the summit of the mountain. Along the way, 33 figures carved into the stone steps bring prosperity to anyone who can find them all. Visit Mount Haguro's five-story pagoda - one of Japan's oldest five-story pagodas standing among hundred-year-old cedar trees on the pilgrimage path and Mount Haguro main shrine. Pay a visit to Ideha Cultural Museum
13:00 Enjoy a lunch at Hagurosan Saikan, a temple where they serve shojin ryori cuisine (a vegetarian cuisine eaten by monks) (self-pay)
14:00 Head to Matsugaoka Village
14:30 Reach Matsugaoka where some 3,000 samurai decided to swap their swords for hoes and cleared some 225 hectares of wasteland
15:15 Head back to Sakata
16:00 Reach Sakata and stop by Yorozuka, a ceramic store where you can see high quality Japanese tea ceremony bowls and various ceramic ware types
16:30 Head back to Sakata Port
17:00 Reach Sakata Port
