Details

Enjoy a full-day tour in eastern Kyoto, away from the crowds.. The tour introduces various aspects of Japanese tradition and is brought to you by an expert local with M.A. in Japanese studies.

Discover the highlights of eastern Kyoto via train and during short walks, and experience not only the cultural and historic highlights but also the local life in the area.

Following a short train ride, the tour takes you to Fushimi Inari Shrine where you can take a walk through the hundreds of crimson "torii" shrine gates. We also visit Uji, which is well associated with green tea in Japan. There are numerous tea shops in the pedestrian area where you can taste green tea and enjoy various other drinks, desserts, and noodles that pride on having green tea as its most featured ingredient. There is also an opportunity for a lunch break.

Between the two districts lies the Mankpuku-ji Temple, which is the main temple of the Obaku Zen School, that retains a Chinese appearance. Fushimi is also known for sake brewing. We visit the Gekkeikan Sake Museum, where you will be introduced to the sake production process as well as taste some sake. The scenery around traditional sake breweries and warehouses in Fushimi has also served as a backdrop in many movies.

Our tour ends with a walk through the famous geisha district of Gion and the old town of Kyoto.
