Experience Amazake Chaya, one of the few remaining of hundreds of teahouses that lined the old Tokaido, Cedar Avenue with towering 400-year-old Japanese cedar patrolling both sides of the trail, and enjoy stunning views of Mt Fuji from Yamanaka Castle Ruins, and more.

Details
We offer two versions of the tour depending on your appetite for walking:
- Hike Hakone Hachiri Tour (12kms walking)
From Odawara Station (0830) we catch the local train to Hakone Yumoto, then bus up to Amazake Chaya teahouse, one of the few remaining of hundreds of teahouses that adorned Old Tokaido. After some heart-warming amasake (non-alcoholic) we follow the stone-paved Tokaido on foot through the forest down to the shore of Lake Ashinoko in Moto-Hakone. Lunch at a café by the Lake. We stroll the kilometer-long Cedar Avenue, lined both sides with towering 400-year-old cedar, then through Hakone Checkpoint. From here we rejoin Old Tokaido for another 5km forest hike to Yamanaka Castle Ruins, Mount Fuji photo opportunity (weather permitting). Then bus to Mishima and stroll along with Genbe River World Heritage Water Area to Mishima Shinkansen Station about 5 pm.
- Walk Hakone Hachiri Tour (4kms walking)
From Odawara Station (0830) we walk to nearby Odawara Castle, the scene of the epic final battle of Japan's Warring States Period in 1590. Then we catch the local train to Hakone Yumoto, then bus up to Amazake Chaya teahouse, one of the few remaining of hundreds of teahouses that adorned Old Tokaido. After some heartwarming amasake (non-alcoholic) we bus down to the shore of Lake Ashinoko in Moto-Hakone. Lunch at a café near the lake. After lunch, we stroll around the lakefront to enjoy Hakone Shrine with its famous red gate over the water, and then walk the kilometer-long Cedar Avenue, lined both sides with towering 400-year-old Cedar, then through Hakone Checkpoint. From here we will take a bus to Mishima (more Fuji views en route, weather permitting of course), and stroll along with Genbe River World Heritage Water Area to Mishima Shinkansen Station about 5 pm.

- All seasons: sturdy, comfortable walking shoes or boots with good grip.
- Winter (we may encounter snow): warm jacket, woolen hat, gloves, rain parker (or umbrellas provided), water bottle.

- Spring and Autumn – either winter or summer gear as above depending on the weather of the day
