Description
Hiking through Asagari no Mori Forest is a fantastic approach to have a better understanding of Hida's herbal plantation, which is the journey’s major purpose. Enjoy the morning fresh air as you walk through the forest offering herbal ingredients used in Hida’s traditional cuisine. This brings you the opportunity to experience it at the local restaurant Busuitei Ohako, whereas the Hida Mori no Megumi and FabCafe Hida will lull you away with their scented herbal tea. Do not miss the Hida Furukawa Festival Exhibition Hall which showcases its gorgeous Yatai festival floats and famous drummers parade! This cultural landmark will surely provide you with a significant picture of Japan’s local heritage. Following the completion of the exhibition, you will go down to Shirakabe Dozogai street, which will take you to a charming medieval ambiance. To conclude our gastronomic tour, we will stop at Watanabe sake brewery, which will introduce you to the richness of this tangible cultural treasure. The tour ends with a sake tasting plan for guests to enjoy.

Tour Itinerary:
Morning
The first part of this excursion, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, will consist of an easy trek through Asagiri no Mori Forest(1,77km, 76m of altitude difference.) After that, we are going to have lunch at Busuitei Ohako, a local restaurant, at 12:00 pm (the cost is less than 1000 yen, not included in the total price).
Afternoon
After lunch, it takes only 30 minutes to go to the next activity: the Hida Furukawa Festival Exhibition Hall. The admission fees (700 yen per adult) are included in this tour (This can be 300 yen for children and visitors with disabilities who receive a 50% discount). Its opening hours are :
→ 9:00 am. to 5:00 pm. (March - November)
→ 9:00 am to 4:30 pm. (December - February)
→ From December 30th to January 2nd, the site is closed.
Following our tour of the hall, we will explore Shirakabe Dozogai Street, the charming ancient canal neighborhood.
It takes another 30 minutes to get to FabCafe Hida, a local coffee establishment that employs Japanese spicebush as a key component. The drinks cost around 500 yen (not included in the total price).
Its opening hours are:
→ Open until 5:00pm (weekdays), 7:00pm (weekends)
→ Closed on Wednesdays
It takes the same amount of time to get to the next neighborhood eatery, Hida Mori no Megumi. Many different tea samples, as well as a range of spices and tastes, are available for tasting (Open until 4:00 pm).
We will conclude the journey by visiting Watanabe sake brewery, a local sake that played an essential part in the daily lives of Hida residents in the past. It is open from 9:00 am. to 5:00 pm (Closed from January 1st until January 4th).
